Exclusive Beach Volleyball Clinic with Olympian Stein Metzger this Sunday Sept 12th!

Hey volleyball enthusiasts,
The AVA is bringing you a rare opportunity on Sept 12th: For one day only, AVP Pro and Olympian Stein Metzger will be in Seattle to host an exclusive volleyball clinic.
Among other things, Stein will teach you many of the basic and advanced techniques of beach volleyball, including passing, setting, hitting, serving and defensive skills. You will be interacting with him on the court and running through drills and techniques first hand.
Clinic details: Sunday Sept 12th 11:00am-12:30 pm, Alki Beach.
Registration is $25, which includes a 1-1/2 hour clinic and lunch is included (Burgers, hotdogs, vegetarian burgers, chips and beverages).
Space is limited (10 participants) so register early. Online registration is required.

AVP icon Stein Metzger received the ultimate honor bestowed upon a former Bruin: induction into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame.
During his career, the Bruins captured three NCAA titles (1993, 1995 and 1996) with Metzger being named NCAA All-Tournament twice. Metzger was also named American Volleyball Coaches Association First Team All-American in 1995 and 1996 and National Co-Player of the Year in 1996.
During his beach career, he captured 18 titles (16 domestic, 2 international) and won bronze at the 2001 Goodwill Games and silver at the 2003 FIVB World Championships. Metzger also competed in the 2004 Olympics and finished fifth with partner Dax Holdren, adding to the resume of one of the best volleyball players and UCLA athletes ever--with Hall of Fame credentials to prove it.

Ready for another exciting summer of beach volleyball at Alki beach!
The first tournament is the weekend of Saturday & Sunday, May 22 & 23. Online registration is required and will open 2 weeks prior to the tournament.
We've got a great season with lots of prizes and action lined up again for this year. Additionally we'll be running 3 Juniors events this year in association with USA Volleyball Juniors, which is in line with our continued goal of growing the sport of beach volleyball in the Pacific Northwest.
We are proud to be considered the leading promoters of beach volleyball in the greater Seattle area and will continue to work hard at making our tournaments a great experience for all levels of play.

Alki Volleyball Association will again offer a Youth Schoarship in 2010
The Alki Volleyball Association (AVA) is proud to announce the second AVA Volleyball Scholarship.
The AVA, leading promoters of beach volleyball events at Alki Beach in Seattle, is working to support the growth of beach volleyball in the local community.
A scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded at the end of the 2010 summer season to an individual player, between the ages of 12 and 18, based on these criteria: participation and sportsmanship.
The AVA Volleyball scholarship will be paid to the USA Volleyball recognized club team of the player's choice, in the Puget Sound Region and is intended to go towards club costs for that player.
To apply for the AVA scholarship, sign-up in person at any AVA tournament. Application deadline is August 28, 2010.

US Open Qualifiers will be hosted by the AVA on Alki beach July 3rd & 4th, and Aug 7th & 8th.
AVA is the official regional qualifying organization for US Open Beach Volleyball in Seattle. Winning your specific AVA division in one of the qualifiers will get you a free entry, and automatic spot in the main bracket (for your division) at the US Open finals in September this year.

The US Open of Beach Volleyball was created with the specific purpose of providing an opportunity for adult players to pursue a crowning achievement on a national stage. The sport continues to grow as demonstrated by the level of active participation found at the regional level. We see players actively participating on all four coasts and at unique and special centers throughout the interior of the United States.
Karch Kiraly is spearheading the development of the US Open. He is working with USA Volleyball and the Elevation Group, a sports and entertainment marketing firm managed by former IMG and ClearChannel/Live Nation executives.
